It’s Friday! That means some of us will be ready to have an adult beverage after a long work week. You can totally indulge, but it’s important to stick with low-carbohydrate alcoholic beverages while following a low carb diet. You can wreck everything you have been working hard on all week. If you are drinking liquor, a cocktail, or even beer or wine, remember you are looking for the lowest amount of carbohydrates possible.
I am a red wine kind of girl, but if I decide on a cocktail, my favorite is Vodka with Zevia, either the soda or the Zevia Sparkling Water. They both are all natural with 0 sugars, 0 added colors and 0 artificial sweeteners. I love the Grape, Ginger Root Beer and the Lime Sparkling water. If you mix the lime sparkling water with tequila, it’s a low carb margarita. I honestly haven’t tried a flavor I didn’t love.
Anyway, as promised, here are a few recipes for you to try out. All of these are low in carbs, but definitely count the carbs as you make each drink so that you can keep track. All ingredients are to taste, depending on how strong you like your drink.
Low Carb Mudslide
Your liquor of choice, unsweetened almond milk, heavy cream, and sugar-free chocolate syrup. Blend it together with ice for a delicious, low carb treat.
Bailey’s Irish Cream is not usually something you can enjoy while on a low carb diet, but this is a low carb friendly copycat recipe. You will use Irish whiskey, almond and vanilla extract, heavy cream, cocoa powder, espresso powder, and a low carb friendly sweetener such as Swerve or Stevia. It should be cooked on the stove, simmered, then cooled up and stored in a bottle.
You will start with sugar-free strawberry juice or go for any mix you want, like strawberry lemonade. Add that to your white rum. Muddle some fresh mint to add to your glass. Add some seltzer and your mojito is ready to go.
A bloody Mary is actually easy to turn into a low carb drink. You can use vodka for the drink, preferable about 80 proof. You then want to add tomato juice, but about half the amount a typical bloody Mary would have. You can then add in some celery salt, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, horseradish and Tabasco sauce.
Last up is the cosmopolitan. This is fun whether you are mixing up cocktails during a birthday party or you want to have something nice to drink when your friends are over. The low carb friendly cosmopolitan uses vodka instated of Triple Sec, then sugar-free or low calorie cranberry juice. Don’t just get light, as that still has some sugar and carbs in it. You can also add some orange extract, lime juice, stevia, and a lime wedge.
Hopefully any of this will help get your weekend started off low carb friendly. I like to keep it simple and stick to Zevia and vodka or tequila.
Talk to you soon,
