Tips For Getting Through Sugar Cravings

I hope you are having a great week. I was reminded over the weekend how close Thanksgiving is getting! We always have it at my house and my brain overloaded on everything that I need to get done. I was also reminded of all the things that I’m supposed to bake for Thanksgiving. I’m going to be trying out some low carb, sugar free desserts to see if I can sneak those into Thanksgiving this year without telling anyone, Lol.

Sugar cravings are the hardest part of starting a healthy lifestyle. This is especially true if you are dealing with sugar addiction related to hidden sugar in foods or high levels of sugar in our daily diet. In fact, sugar cravings can lead to you going off your diet plan and to completely derail from your health goals. If you need to remove sugar from your diet and cut down on the sugar cravings, here are some tips to help you.

Have an Alternative

One of the easiest ways to get over or through your sugar cravings is to have an alternative. You want something to grab instead of the bad choice, so that you can still get the sweet taste without the side effects. Some options are fruits, flavored powders for foods, and things like Greek yogurt instead of ice cream. I personally love Nush Foods variety of snack cakes. You can check them out at Netrition.com here. I also love the Smart Cakes from the Smart Baking Company. You can check those out here. I recently discovered the Know Foods Cookies. They are all natural, non GMO, grain free, gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, peanut free, soy free, yeast free and are Paleo friendly. It helps to have good options on hand when you are trying to break your sugar cravings. You can check out the Know cookies here. All of these options can be a suitable alternative for your normal sugar cravings.

Smell Instead of Tasting

Sometimes your brain needs to be near the sugar and that is enough. This plays into the idea of smelling the sugar instead of tasting the sugar. You can get sweet scented items, go to a bakery or to a grocery store. Just smell the cupcakes, sweets, and the chocolate. This can sometimes trigger something in your brain that stops the craving and lets you move on to a better choice. In fact, often times the frostings that are used on cupcakes or cookies can be so overwhelmingly sweet that the smell stops the craving and makes you feel a bit ill just smelling the craving you are having.

Drink Infused Water

You may have heard of infused water, but it usually refers to a method of getting more water into your system. What you can do with infused water is use natural fruits to sweeten the water. You can then have it on hand when you have a craving for something sweet. You are getting the sugar taste when you drink the water all while hydrating your body and getting some nutrients from the infused fruits that you need. Some options are apple cinnamon infused water, orange and mint, or lemon. You can check out water infusers on Amazon here.

By incorporating these tips and combining them into a plan, you can ensure that you are covered through any sugar cravings you have. You will also more towards healthier choices to replace sugars and help your body reach the goals you have set.

We are going to keep talking about ways to stay healthy during the upcoming holidays. I need all the reminders I can get too.

Talk to you soon,

Tammy 🙂
